Great care has been taken in the development of Mt. Cuba Center Connect to ensure the widest compatibility with all of today's modern devices. However, it is impossible to ensure compatibility in every situation due to the myriad of computer platforms and proprietary technologies that make up the internet. You will also find a link to a information on .pdf reader and the reasons and solutions for limited functionality in some cases.
In most instances the solution may be simpler than it seems so please check the following list first. If you are still having trouble, please follow the instructions at the end of this document to report the issue. 99% of issues will be caused by a slow internet connection. Follow the instructions in number section 2 to test your speed.
1. General Configuration Information
This course was designed with modern audio and video technology. While we cannot guarantee specific configurations, any computer running at least Windows Vista, Windows 7 , or Mac OS X 10.4.11 should provide for trouble free operation of Mt. Cuba Center Connect. It is also compatible with many mobile devices, however, interactive .pdf functions such as audio or video may be limited or non-operable due to different implementations of the .pdf reader by various manufacturers. This .pdf limitation exists on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch devices, and on Mac OSX. Please review this document for potential fixes for your systems and more detailed technical inforamtion on the .pdf format and Adobe Reader. Mt. Cuba Center Connect supports Windows XP (Service Pack 3), however, if you are running Windows XP on a machine more than 4 years old you may not enjoy the same functionality of modern operating systems and certain features of Mt. Cuba Center Connect may behave differently or not work at all, a fast Internet connection of 1,000Kbps (1Mbps) sustained download speed is required.
2. How fast is you internet connection?
You will need an Internet connection with sufficient bandwidth. You should have a cable modem or DSL with at least 1,000Kbps (1Mbps) sustained downstream speed or higher for is required. You can test your downstream bandwidth at www.speedtest.net. Once there, on the map, click the dot that is closest to your geographic location. This will initiate a speed test. If the closest dot is already selected (this will be indicated by a green triangle), click "begin test." Once complete, your downstream bandwidth is displayed in the "Download" box near the top of your screen.
3. Do you need to update your audio/video player? Make sure your player is:
• Apple QuickTime 7.5 or above. www.apple.com/quicktime
• Windows Media Player version 10 or higher. windows.microsoft.com
• Adobe Flash Player (You should always run the latest version for your computer)http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
4. Check your firewall settings!
You may need to adjust your firewall to allow connections from elearning.mtcubacenter.org. Please follow your computer or software manufacturer's instructions on how to adjust your firewall settings.
